Hryhoriy Skovoroda is the most famous poet and philosopher. He was born in 1722, and received his education at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy in Kiev. Hryhoriy spent over 10 years in Kharkiv, teaching poetics, syntax, Greek, and ethics. After his dismissal from the college he abandoned any hope of securing a regular position and spent the rest of his life wandering about eastern Ukraine.

The ontological basis of Skovoroda's teaching is the concept of three worlds:

- The first and main world of Skovoroda is the entire universe - the macrocosm. It includes everything born in this big world. There is no beginning or end in this world - it is eternal and boundless.

- the second world is a microcosm - the human world;

- the third world - the symbolic world of the Bible. The symbols of the Bible "lead our minds to an understanding of eternal nature."

4
Skovoroda divided human into two parts: internal and external. All the characteristics of the external human are determined by the form of her existence - earthly existence, which is the main challenge of human on his life path and in the knowledge of truth. The internal person has according to its nature two types of mind, lives by two types of laws, has a double life.

For him, human is a small world, a microcosm with its own laws of existence.

The theme of freedom in the poem De Libertate

Skovoroda defended the rights of the human person in every human being, and in translation into a specific political language of the time, that meant a strong democratic tendency which was coupled with sympathy for the serf peasant masses, with an acute dislike for the Moscow oppressors.

The great traveler of Ukraine continues his endless travels to the readers of new epochs. Hryhoriy Skovoroda brought to the people a word of happiness for everyone and for all. His ideas are needed today and in the furute.

Skovoroda's influence in the 19th century on writers such as Ivan Kotliarevsky, Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko, Taras Shevchenko, and Panteleimon Kulish was minimal. But his poetic style, ideas, and moral example have played an important role in the rebirth of Ukrainian culture in the 20th century. Poets such as Mykola Filiansky, Pavlo Tychyna, Vasyl Barka, Vasyl Stus, Hryhorii Chubai, Ihor Kalynets, and Ivan Drach have found inspiration in him.
