Do you collect stamps, stone, flowers or other things?

Are you interested in dancing? Everyone likes dancing of some sort. Perhaps you are interested in ballet, classical or modern. Or perhaps you like country- and folk-dancing.


Do you like sightseeing in towns where there are old building: palaces and old houses oh historical interest?

There are hundreds of personal hobbies are philately, collecting picture postcard and books. Some people are interested in modern architecture. They collect pictures showing interesting architectural designs. Other are interested in photography. They always take their cameras with them when they are on holiday.

A useful hobby is collecting tape-recording. You may have recording of operas, folk-music or jazz concert.

Radio and televisions in Britain

Most families in Britain have a radio set, though they say that they don`t listen to the radio very often. BBC programs are on the air from six in the morning until twelve o`clock at night. Among the programs are comments and discussions, interviews with various people, broadcasts for school, plays, serious and light music. The main news bulletins are followed by light music, short plays and sketches. A special program consists mainly of informative talks and instructions in subjects, such as foreign languages, gardening, cooking, education.

Television, which is called TV or the tally, is very popular in Britain. Television programs are broadcast every evening , and at certain times of the date too. Viewers are able to watch “live” transmissions of different events, news, interviews, educational programs, theatrical and musical performances and many other. Films are televised, and some are specially made for television.

Coca-Cola

  1. The Coca-Cola story begins in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1886. John S. Pemberton invents a new drink . Two of the ingredients are the South American coca leaf and the African cola nut.

  2. Pemberton can`t think of a good name for the drink. Finally Dr. Pemberton partner Frank M. Robinson suggests the name Coca-Cola and writes the new name in a special way – and that become the famous trademark.

  3. Thirty years later the famous Coca-Cola bottle design first appears. The style of the bottle trademark are very important for the success of the drink.

  4. For many years, they make only Coca-Cola. They only introduce new drinks – Fanta, Sprite and TAB – in the 1960s, and diet Coke in the 1982.

  5. The recipe of Coca-Cola is a secret. IN 1985 the company does something almost incredible. They change the recipe! But the public is very unhappy. And, soon after, they bring back the original recipe: “Coca-Cola Classic”.

  6. Today they sell Coca-Cola in 195 countries. Hundreds of millions of people, from Boston to Beijing, drink it every day. It has the most famous trademark on the world.

The Sighting

I will never forget the first time I saw the glowing, orange lights in the night sky. I was ten years old, and it was just after a late family dinner. It was my turn to take out the garbage, so I was walking to the garage when it happened. I heard a rumbling sounded like thunder, but there wasn`t a cloud in the sky.

I looked up and that`s when I saw the light. They were orange and hovering in the sky above my head. The hair on the back of my neck stood straight up, and a chill ran down my spine.

It wasn`t the last time I would see the lights. But years later, I found out that military helicopters were being tested at the naval base near my house!

Read a magazine article and put them into the correct order

  1. His mouth was diseased, and he bared his teeth aggressively. I was not quite sure what to do.

  2. The fishermen, who had seen all of this, were laughing so much that they could hardly stand up.

  3. The boat stopped some way from the beach, so we had to swim to the shore. The monkeys did not seem to be afraid of us, so we assumed that they must be used to humans coming to see them.

  4. Suddenly the monkey leapt down from the tree, so I ran down the beach as fast as possible with the monkey at my heels. In the end I only managed to escape by running into the sea, leaving the monkey on the beach behind me.

  5. During the trip, the fishermen told us that there were a lot of monkeys on a beach only a few miles away. We asked if they could take us there, and half an hour later, we arrived.

  6. I went off down the beach on my own. I came up to a tree in which there was a much larger monkey unlike the other, he did not seem to be at all friendly.
